The Mount Hot Pools is Currently Closed

Kia ora everyone,

We know many of you are missing your beloved Mount Hot Pools right now, especially during these crisp and sunny spring days! We are, too. This is just a quick heads-up that you may notice some activity on site this week as clean-up work begins in the car park area.

Just to be clear: this doesn’t mean we are reopening soon, but it is a welcome bit of progress.

This work is expected to take a few days and will happen during daytime hours, around 8am-5pm. People nearby may notice some extra noise from machinery and vehicles, and we apologise for any inconvenience or disruption this may cause.

The Mount Hot Pools site remains closed to the public, with exclusion zones in place for safety. This work is not expected to affect traffic or access to Adams Ave.

The families directly affected by the Mauao landslide tragedy in January remain in our thoughts and this work will be undertaken with care and respect, recognising the sensitivity of the site.

There will be strict health and safety controls, including daily checks, specialist monitoring, and clear procedures to stop or pause work if weather, ground movement or other safety risks arise.

As we’ve shared previously, future decisions about the Mount Hot Pools will be in part guided by the ongoing risk assessment work being carried out by geo-tech experts for Mauao and the surrounding area. That is one of several factors that will go into decision-making about the future of the Mount Hot Pools and will help determine what can safely happen next, including any future remediation or reopening plans.

In the meantime, our Mount Hot Pools team continues to work hard behind the scenes. You may have seen some of their familiar faces helping out across our other Bay Venues facilities, including places like Baywave. We are very grateful to our people for the commitment, flexibility and positivity they continue to show while the hot pools remain closed.

We also want to acknowledge Tauranga City Council, the Mauao Trust, and everyone else involved in the ongoing work to support the safe reopening of Mauao. Safety remains the top priority for all of us, and we know this is a deeply significant place for mana whenua and our community.
